Tom Lofton

When I was a young boy, about 30 months old, I was adopted with the help of my favorite uncle, who just happened to be an attorney in the city where I was an orphan and used his legal abilities to connect me to my mother and eventual family. I remember being fascinated by the stories my uncle told me about his career and what he did every day at work- how he fought for social justice and to make the world a better place.

By the time I was six years old, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer, and I never waivered in that decision right up to the day I passed my first bar exam in Oregon in July of 1990. I started my practice that summer in Portland, Oregon, and my passion and enthusiasm for helping others have grown ever since.

What I have learned is that the law is a wonderful tool for achieving goals. My focus is on using the constitution, statutes and common law we have in place to help individuals, families and business owners protect what is theirs, keep more of what they have earned, and to get the most out of it for their loved ones and their favorite causes. We all want to be able to say we “finished well,” and that we left the world a better place.

My typical client representations include wealth counseling, estate planning, business structuring (for optimum asset protection, taxation and succession), probate, settlement and administration of taxable trusts, tax solutions, resolving estate controversies, and philanthropic planning.

My practice emphasizes collaboration with other professionals (legal, accounting, banking and financial) to accomplish client goals. My clients, which number more than 2000 individuals and families and hundreds of active businesses, is focused in the Pacific Northwest, primarily around the Seattle and Portland metro areas.

Tom is a shareholder/attorney in Oseran Hahn, P.S. He received his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.

He is a member of the State Bars of Washington and Oregon, and the King County Bar Association.

Tom has a young family. His personal interests include alpine skiing, mountain climbing, marathon running, golf and attending the theatre and concerts. He is active in charitable work for Seattle Children’s Hospital, the Boy Scouts of America, and various other charitable causes in the local community.
